We are a studio for handcrafted 3D wooden wall art. Every Sutrayan piece is designed for depth, cut into precise profiles, assembled, and hand-finished in our workshop in Kanpur, India.
Our approach
Why we work in layers
A flat image records light. A layered object works with it. Cut edges, openings, and stacked profiles create shadows that move through the day, turning a familiar symbol or silhouette into a shallow wall sculpture.
Our collection moves between sacred geometry, mandalas, travel, music, nature, pets, and home accessories. We are interested in pieces that can hold meaning and still belong in a contemporary Indian room. The object should reward both a straight-on view and the moment you pass it from the side.
An honest material story
Our canonical material is premium engineered pine (MDF). It is engineered wood, not solid timber. We choose it because its consistent surface supports intricate laser-cut detail and closely aligned layers. Depending on the design, Sutrayan pieces can use up to 9 layers.
Like other wood-based indoor decor, MDF should be kept away from direct water and damp walls. We believe buyers deserve the clear material name, realistic care guidance, and exact product dimensions before they decide.

How a piece moves through the studio
Design for the material
The process starts with a design separated into stable cut profiles. Fine details need enough material around them to survive handling, while every opening and edge must contribute to the finished composition.
Cut, align, assemble
After cutting, the profiles are checked, aligned, assembled, and prepared for their final surface. The stacked structure must read as one relief rather than a loose set of parts.
Finish and inspect
Colour, edge character, surface consistency, and the way light crosses the relief are considered together. Before packing, the layers, overall composition, and hanging arrangement are inspected.
Made to order
What handcrafted to order means
We do not describe a machine-cut object as finished when it leaves the cutter. Production continues through alignment, assembly, surface preparation, hand finishing, inspection, and packing. “Handcrafted to order” means the workshop begins the piece for an order rather than treating it as anonymous long-held stock.

The people behind the finish
Layered work depends on patient hands: profiles must meet, fine cut-outs must remain clear, surfaces must be prepared, and the final piece must be checked as a whole. We do not attach invented founder stories or anonymous review quotes to that work. The studio voice is collective because the object passes through a workshop process.
